Jonathan
accepts bookings for solo, chamber and concerto engagements worldwide.
He is known for having a particular affinity for accepting an engagement
at a few days, or even 24 hours notice. Among some of his more crazy
stunts were having two weeks to learn Beethoven's 5th piano concerto,
six weeks for the Bartok 3, and countless other concerts at a few days'
notice (including the Beethoven 5 again!)
In
August 2000, Jonathan stood in at the last moment for a concert tour
of South Africa which was due to be given by Joshua Bell (violin) and
sponsored by MTN. The organiser of this tour, Jacques SellSchop noted:
'...for purposes of popular appeal and commerical viability, the
programme MTN required him to play comprised a selection of extremely
challenging pieces, only half of which featured in his existing concert
repoertoire... What impressed MTN was not only Jonathan's mature, no-nonsense
willingness to learn and play from memory in the space of three weeks,
complex works not in his standard repertoire, but his readiness to undertake
a punishing schedule of playing them in three different cities in the
space of 7 days which included the studio recording at the SABC of a
74-minute compact disc.'
